Duleen van Gunsteren was born in 1995 in Noordwijk. As a boy, he studied violin at the School for Young Talent in The Hague with Koosje van Haeringen. He then continued his viola studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Ron Ephrat and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Marjolein Dispa-Knaven and Nobuko Imai, where he will graduate this summer.
Duleen won the third prize at the Oskar Nedbal Viola Competition 2023 in Prague. Additionally, he won special prizes at the Viola Competition Amsterdam 2021 (Leo Smit Prize) and at the Chamber Music Competition Gelre with the duo Van Gunsteren Keinänen (Grachtenfestival Prize). He has taken masterclasses with Isabelle van Keulen, Garth Knox, Pierre Henri Xuereb, Atte Kilpeläinen, Lilli Maijala, and Anita Mitterer.

On a project basis, Duleen plays with orchestras and ensembles such as the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra, Combattimento, and ASKO|Schönberg. Duleen is artistic leader of the Noordwijk Kamermuziekfestival. In addition to playing classical music on the viola, Duleen enjoys folk music, improvisation, and singing. His hobbies include chess, running, and training dogs. Since 2024, Duleen studies at the Chapelle Reine Elisabeth in Waterloo with Miguel da Silva.
